Compress Image to 50 KB

Many online application forms ask for a photo or signature of 50 KB or less. This tool finds the highest quality that fits under 50 KB, and only reduces the dimensions if quality alone is not enough.

Getting a photo under 50 KB without ruining it

50 KB is a common limit for passport-style photos and signatures on exam, recruitment and visa forms. For example, recruitment notices from IBPS (India) have asked for a photo between 20 KB and 50 KB. Requirements change, so always check the current instructions of the form you are filling in.

Crop first. If the form wants a head-and-shoulders photo or a fixed aspect ratio, crop and resize before compressing: fewer pixels means more quality at the same size. Use “Resize image” and then continue here.

Some sites want the opposite. The UK passport and visa services, for instance, ask for a photo of at least 50 KB. If a form gives a range, set both the target and the minimum.

Forms almost always expect JPG. Keep the JPG output unless the form explicitly accepts WebP.

Frequently asked questions

The form says “maximum 50 KB” but rejects my 50 KB file. Why?

Some sites count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes and others as 1,024. Fyluxo uses 1,024 bytes, so “50 KB” here is 51,200 bytes. To be safe with any site, set the target a little lower, for example 48 KB.

Will my photo still be sharp at 50 KB?

For a typical form photo (a face at a few hundred pixels across), yes. A full-resolution phone photo has far more pixels than 50 KB can hold, so the tool reduces the dimensions; cropping to the required size first gives the best result.

Can I compress a signature to 20 KB instead?

Yes. Type any target between 5 KB and 20,000 KB in the size box.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser; the photos never leave your device.
