What decides whether a PDF fits in 1 MB

Typed text takes little room: a PDF with many pages of text is often well under 1 MB. What makes a PDF large is pictures: scanned pages, phone photos of documents, photos inside a report. That is where the tool works. It tries resolutions for the pictures, measures each result, and keeps the sharpest one that is still under 1 MB.

Your text is not touched. Every attempt is checked to keep the text of every page and the number of pages, and the result is never larger than your file. A PDF that is already under 1 MB is given back as it is, without being sent.

When 1 MB cannot be reached, the result says why: the text, fonts and drawings alone take more than 1 MB, or the pictures are already at the lowest resolution at which text in them stays readable. You still get the smallest file possible. From there, split the document into parts with Split PDF, delete the pages the portal does not need with Delete PDF pages, or scan the paper again in grayscale.

Here 1 MB is 1,024 KB (1,048,576 bytes). Some sites count 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes: if a file of exactly 1 MB is refused, set the target to 1,000 KB or a little lower. The limit belongs to the site you upload to and can change, so check its current instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1 MB guaranteed?

Not for every file. The tool shows the size it reached; when that is still over 1 MB it explains why and gives you the smallest version it could make.

Will my PDF lose quality?

Only the pictures can become less sharp. Text stays real text that can be selected and searched. Documents made mostly of photos lose the most detail.

Is my file uploaded?

Yes: compression runs on our server, and the file is deleted immediately after processing.

Can I choose another size, such as 500 KB or 2 MB?
